From Rabbi Leuchter's preface to the Commentary on the Sefer Nefesh Hachaim: . When I first began to learn with the Mashgiach zt”l, I would thank him at the conclusion of our learning sessions, as I was very moved by his kindly dedicating so much time to me. At a certain point he told me that he disapproved of my thanking him. He told me that he had learnt with Rav Hutner zt”l for several years, and not once said “thank you”. It was clear to him that the Torah they learnt together was not intended for him personally, but rather to pass on to others.
